Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, is a celebration of the lives of the deceased. The celebration is traced back to the days of the Aztec. During the 1800s, or so, Italian missionaries may have inspired the creation of decorated skulls made of sugar to decorate the graves and churches of the deceased.
