Henry Kaiser built a shipyard on this farmland in Vancouver, Washington in 1942 to produce ships for the American Navy. During World War Two, the yard produced nearly a ship every week. Production of ships and aircraft were significant forces for WWII and consequently shaped the area of Vancouver. Although Vancouver had been the site of a modest World War I shipyard, 1942 and World War II brought unprecedented development as nearly 40,000 laborers moved here to work at the Kaiser Shipyards.
